Moving Home: Three Things To Do Before Moving Day

woman overwhelmed by moving boxes

When you move home, there is so much to think about. There are lots of things to organize and arrange when it comes to the actual move. Then there are things like packing all of your belongings and making sure that all of the boxes are labeled up. Then on the actual move day, things can get really chaotic. So here is just a small checklist for things that you should organize before you make the move. Then when you move in, all you need to think about is the unpacking and getting everything as you’d like it.

Pack a Moving Day Bag

When it comes to moving, you’ll be busy. Everything will be packed away and stacked up, so some things might be quite hard to come across. So having a bag packed for the day you move, packed with essentials, will make a massive difference (to your stress levels at least). You should pack some snacks in the bag that you can share out. If you have kids, then pack more and according to what they eat. It is also a good idea to have a few black sacks in your bag. You can use it for trash, as well as any other messes that might get made on moving day. Toilet paper and cleaning wipes or baby wipes are a good idea too. You don’t know how clean things will have been left in the new house. Plus, you’ll need to use the bathroom at some point, and you won’t want to hunt for the toilet paper! Even having a few light bulbs in there will mean you’re not caught short. You don’t know what state the house will have been left it.

Make a Folder of Important Information

There are lots of important documents that you don’t want to get lost in the move. So think about getting together an important documents folder. Things like passports and insurance documents would go in there. But it is also a good idea to have some emergency numbers in there. If you are moving to a new town, then look up the numbers of some people that might be able to help you. Get the number of the doctor’s office and schools, if needed. Then think about other emergency numbers like a plumber or electrician. Someone like A+ Appliance Repair would be good to have on the list too. Just in case anything gets broken in the move, or you find out that the previous owners left the cooker broken. Then you won’t have to pain, especially if you haven’t had wifi installed so can’t search on there for numbers.

Change Details of Important Documents
Before you move to your new address, make sure that you call to change the address details on things like your bank statements and insurance documents. Change over the internet and cell phone bills to all be registered to the new house. The last thing that you will want to do when you move in is to have to sit down and make the calls when you just want to get organized and unpack!
